Animating the time of day and year, location and weather allows you to see how shadows will be cast, and also allows you to fit the model into existing photos and video.

In this case the client wanted still pictures with a non-photorealistic 3D model look. They provided the already-existing device but no plans. I built a model by measuring it and by eye. Once the model was built it was quick and easy to get any shot they desired.
